The Park Children's Centre, Falmouth

Carrick family services applied for a Eatsome Bite Size Grant in July 2008 to run a 6 week healthy recipe / cookery programme, looking at healthy recipe ideas, how to grow seasonal produce / herbs through to practical cooking sessions with local families.

The idea was to provide information, education, practical sessions and ideas while supporting families to adapt to healthy food choices.

The best bits about the project was the group having fun, learning new ideas, problem solving as a group and sharing with their children and making the connection between growing, food and cooking. As well as the confidence and self esteem building that spread across the entire group.

The project actually developed into a gardening club where a core group of parents went onto form their own club called 'The Lighthouse Growers' in preparation for 'The Big Lunch'.  They have transformed the grounds of the Children's Centre into an edible paradise and continue to link this with cooking sessions in conjunction with Eatsome and CN4C.  The centre is confident the group will continue to grow and already have a volunteer parent through this group.
