Healthy weight sessions
Eatsome are working in partnership with LEAPActive and the Weight Matters programme, within the Health Promotion Service, to offer free fun sessions for adults or families to help them manage their weight.
Weight Matters for Adults
The Health Promotion Service offers Weight Matters courses for adults across Cornwall. These courses include aspects of supporting small behaviour changes, keeping active and healthy cooking. Eatsome deliver cooking sessions as part of these courses. If you're interested in coming on a course or are a health professional and would like to refer someone, click here for more information on where courses are being delivered and who to contact.

Weight Matters for Children
Keep It In the Family
is a partnership programme between Exhale and the Health Promotion Service which is aimed at children aged 7–13 who are overweight or obese with their families (including parents and siblings).
During the 6 month programme the families learn all about nutrition, healthy foods, food labelling, internal and external triggers, behaviour change and cooking skills. They also take part in lots of fun physical activity, where the families get to enjoy a variety of different activities altogether. These activities will make the most of our local facilities.
We are now taking referrals for the next 3 programmes running throughout Cornwall starting in January 2012 in Penzance, Redruth and Bodmin areas. Please call if you wish to refer someone or would like any further information.
Adapting your recipes
A healthy diet is all about having the right balance. Learning how to adapt your daily favourite recipes is easy, it just takes a bit of practice but it will be worth it in the end.
It is easier to maintain health changes in the long term if you adapt your normal recipes. To make your meals into healthier alternatives, you can modify them simply by reducing the amount of fat, salt and sugar they contain and increasing the fibre content.
The main consideration is the overall balance of the meals, with the emphasis on long term health and weight loss/maintenance.
Please download our 'healthier cooking' booklet with tips on how to adapt your favourite recipes.
Live 4 LIFE
(Lifestyle Intervention for Food & Exercise), is a rolling Weight Management Programme over a two year period for families in the Penryn and Falmouth locality. The course is being funded through the local GP's so we will be taking direct referrals from the surgeries. However, we would really like a good relationship with other stakeholders in the area as we see them having a pivotal role in the recruitment of young people for the courses. Self referrals are also welcome.
Live 4 LIFE will be targeting children from Falmouth and Penryn aged between 7 - 16 with recognised overweight or obesity issues and/or low self esteem stemming from perceptions of body shape. The programme will focus on the whole family making changes. It is essential that at least one parent/carer attends the programme with the referred child, but the whole family are invited and encouraged to attend.
If you are working with groups in the area, we would really appreciate your help to recruit families onto our courses. Flyers and information can be posted to you. Email: amy.bromfield@ciospct.cornwall.nhs.uk
As this is a two year project we believe that we can have a tremendous impact upon the area and hope that close links with different agencies will strengthen this to ensure that we work with those in the most need.
